Join in the fun!
Being a ‘Champion Family’ means welcoming a beautiful dog (either a groodle, poodle or golden retriever) into your home as a permanent member of your household.
They’re your dog — you walk them, train them, spoil them, take them on holidays. The difference is that several times over the course of their breeding life, they’ll help create a litter of puppies, and if your dog is female, you’ll raise those pups in your home for the first eight weeks before they go to their new owners.
Our breeding dogs are pets first — they live in their forever homes before, during, and after their breeding years — never in kennels! Puppies are born in real homes with their mums, feeling comfortable and secure, surrounded by the human families that love them.
If you already have a groodle, golden retriever or poodle and would like us to consider them for breeding, we’d love to hear from you as well.
Every litter raised through our program generates proceeds that go directly to charity. So, as one of our champions, you’re not just raising great puppies — you’re contributing to the work of organisations like Beyond Blue, Hummingbird House, Assistance Dogs Australia, and the Timor Children’s Foundation, and more.
What we’re looking for
We need people and families who are patient, dedicated, and genuinely love dogs. It’s hard work! Previous experience raising or owning dogs is important, and a basic understanding of dog behaviour goes a long way.
We also ask that all champions commit to obedience training for their dog — starting with puppy preschool at your local vet and continuing with further training.
Your home environment matters too. You’ll need appropriate space for a dog and, at times, a litter of puppies, and you’ll need to be based in the Springfield, Brisbane, or surrounding region so our team can visit regularly to support you. Some of our champions are based further away, in places like the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, too.
Supporting our champions
Groodles Australia prioritises the health and happiness of our parent dogs and their gorgeous puppies above all else.
Our champions are supported and guided throughout the process. Groodles Australia staff visit regularly throughout the breeding and litter-raising process and are always available for advice.
Thanks to a generous sponsorship from Advance Pet Food, all champion dogs are fed for free for the duration of their time in our program — that’s up to five to seven years of free food.
Our community events
Once a year we get all our breeding dogs and their families together for an annual event — Groodlepalooza! — part thank-you, part reunion. We also have a private Facebook group where champion families and volunteers can connect, ask questions, share advice, and stay updated.
Our team is increasingly getting hands-on with the charities we support, and champion families are welcome to be part of that too. The Timor Children’s Foundation holds an annual luncheon to update their community on the foundation’s impact, and our Groodles Australia families are always invited. From time to time, there are also opportunities for volunteers to join TCF on trips to Timor to help with their mobile dental program and other work on the ground.
